In September, 2005, at the beginning of his senior year in high school, Ben was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. Within the first few months of treatment he went from being captain of the varsity soccer team to losing 30 pounds and fighting for his life. Treatment lasted two years and two months, every day of which his body endured the onslaught of treatment - from pills to IV drips to cranial radiation, and sometimes several at a time. Toward the end of treatment he had his hip replaced and several joints repaired due to damage from steroid treatment. His last day of treatment was Halloween 2007. He's a survivor, and he loves his life. We stand in awe at his courage and heart.
